Phase 2 of the Ardley project rehabilitated an underused single-car garage into a home office and entertainment room.  Careful consideration was given to preserving and strengthening the structure’s existing concrete floor and foundation, especially since a large live oak tree is a few feet away.  The office features a custom-built adjustable-height desk, open shelving, and work counter.  A powder room is tucked into a back corner.  Windows, skylights, and doors are strategically located for natural light and views; in particular, the folding door system allows for easy flow between the interior and the already-existing deck and terraced seating areas.  In its renovated form, the building forms an active edge to the family’s outdoor space, creating a sense of warmth and enclosure.
